Apartments in physio practice Meppel, with a focus on shared cars for more greenery

Massages, rehabilitation and physiotherapy. Since 1989 this was the issue of the day in an office building, just outside the center of Meppel. There was Physiotherapy De Commissioner, named after the street name. But the practice has moved and so the building is empty.

A new interpretation has now been devised for this. It is expected that the office building will no longer be filled with companies. The plan is therefore to realize 30 rental apartments in it now. Another eight homes will be built around the building. It concerns six terraced houses in the parking lot of the former physiotherapy and two houses on a piece of undeveloped land next to the office building.

The fact that there will be construction on the parking lot automatically means fewer parking spaces. The municipality estimates that 64 parking spaces are needed to give all new residents a place for their car. With the fact that there is room for 65 parking spaces, that seems to be good.

But the municipality and the project developer Jong project development of the housing plans are going for fewer parking spaces. They are committed to using a shared car. Two shared cars will be placed on the site, so that eight parking spaces can disappear. They want that, in order to make room for greenery. “Because greenery contributes to a pleasant living and living environment, counteracts heat stress and contributes to biodiversity in the city”, is the opinion of the municipality and Jong project development.
