Apartments care institution Meppel completely burnt out: ‘All things have been destroyed’

Three clients of the care institution in Meppel that burned out last night have been given a different place to live. “All items have been destroyed by the fire,” says a spokesperson for care institution Cosis.

A fire raged in the night from Monday to Tuesday in a location where nineteen elderly people with an intellectual disability live with supervision. Three apartments were completely burnt out. The residents of these apartments have since received other belongings and have been accommodated in a different location.

It is possible that part of the household effects of a fourth occupant were damaged. In addition, there is the necessary smoke and water damage.

“They are doing well,” says the spokesman. “They all stayed calm last night.” She does say that everyone is shocked by the fire. No one was injured in the fire. However, someone did inhale smoke, which was treated on the spot. As a precaution, in addition to ambulance personnel, the mobile medical team also came to the fire for assistance.

The residents of the complex were evacuated last night. “They are all well and calmly taken care of by the staff and the emergency services.”

It is not yet known how the fire started. The fire department is investigating.
