Apartment residents are still the victims of a broken elevator during Easter: “A big scandal”

After five weeks, the elevator of the flat on the Europaboulevard in Alkmaar would finally be repaired today. But nothing is less true. “It still doesn’t work,” resident Harrie Smit angrily says. He is not at all pleased with landlord Woonwaard. And according to the housing association, it could take up to a week.

According to Harrie, Woonwaard is not cooperating with anything and the information provision is also not good. “When you call them they can’t help, or they don’t call back,” he says. “It’s that the people who live here help each other a little bit.”

For the past five weeks, groceries for residents who find it difficult to go outside have been taken out by neighbors who have better mobility or by family members. “It’s outrageous how things are going here,” Harry shouts.

Resident Mr. Beck (86) is also angry: “I will be locked up indoors for six weeks.” His wife does the shopping. “Once a day I go to the supermarket with great difficulty and use the stairlift,” said Mrs. Beck.

But the stairlift – which is installed as an emergency solution – often does not work either. Mrs. Beck demonstrates that the elevator on the last stairs to her floor does indeed stop working. “I have to go up one step at a time with a heavy shopping bag, that’s impossible.”

She has already called Woonwaard about the problem with the stairlift, but they have not come up with a solution. “The whole situation is a big scandal,” she said.

The fact that the elevator is broken has even more consequences. “Deliverers also skip us,” said Mrs. Beck. “Package deliverers no longer ring the doorbell, but immediately throw a card in the bus with ‘you were not at home’. While my husband has been confined to home for weeks,” she responds indignantly.

At the top of the apartment on the eighth floor, four elevator mechanics are hard at work. They are also affected by the broken elevator. “Everything has to be dragged up and that is disappointing. I understand that the residents are angry,” said one of the mechanics.

NH Nieuws previously saw how it took a resident twenty minutes to get up. Watch the video below (text continues):

Reaction Woonwaard

“We find it very annoying for the residents, and they will all receive a letter today explaining the situation. It also states that the elevator is expected to be made in the next week.”

“It is not the intention that if someone calls about the incorrect or poor functioning of the stairlift, it will not be made. I will pass on this problem,” says Woonwaard.
