Apartment on Zeedijk in Knokke temporarily uninhabitable after electric scooter catches fire: “Resident overcome by smoke” | Knokke-Heist

A fire broke out in an apartment on the Zeedijk in Zoute in Knokke on Saturday afternoon. There, an electric scooter caught fire while charging. The resident was overcome by the smoke. The apartment is temporarily uninhabitable.

The emergency services were alerted around 12:30 p.m. “It was a report about an electric scooter that had caught fire,” the local police said. The scooter was charging in one of the rooms of the apartment and at some point things went wrong. It was not immediately clear how that could happen. The resident was unable to extinguish the fire himself and was briefly overcome by smoke due to the smoke development and had to be taken to hospital for examination. His wife was unharmed. It concerns a couple from Brussels.

The rushed fire brigade quickly had the situation under control and was able to prevent the fire from spreading further. There is smoke damage in the affected apartment. The room where the scooter was charging burned down completely and the fire brigade declared the apartment temporarily uninhabitable. The rest of the building was spared.
