ANWR Group mourns Georg Neumann

Georg Neumann, former CEO of Nord-West-Ring Schuheinkaufsgenossenschaft eG, has died at the age of 96.

The doctor of economics died on October 11, the ANWR Group announced on Wednesday. He headed the trading association from which today’s ANWR GROUP eG developed from 1967 to 1988. He also shaped the cooperative system and the group scene in Germany.

“With Dr. Neumann, we are losing a person and conversation partner who has been valued for many years, a forward-thinking CEO and an important shaper for our group of companies and for the cooperative system,” said Frank Schuffelen, CEO of the ANWR Group.

Neumann laid the foundation for the Quick Schuh franchise system in 1969 and ten years later created the “Nord-West-Ring Bank eG” – today DZB BANK GmbH – and “Fachsport Handelsgesellschaft mbH” – today SPORT 2000 GmbH The basis for the successful diversification of the ANWR Group, according to the trading association based in Mainhausen, Hesse. Under his leadership, activities in Austria, the Netherlands and Sweden were also intensified.

Neumann also served, among other things, for 20 years on the board of directors of the Cooperative Association of Hesse/Rhineland-Palatinate/Thuringia, on the advisory board of the Norddeutsche Zentralkasse and on the board of directors of DG-Bank – now DZ BANK – as well as as Vice President of the German Cooperative and Raiffeisen Association (DGRV).
