Antti lost his headphones in the wilderness of Lapland – They were found a year later in a completely unimaginable place

When a man from Helsinki lost his headphones in the wilderness of Lapland, he never thought he would see them again. However, the opposite happened.

Helsinki Antti Rossinen was in January of last year admiring the fell landscapes in the wilderness of Kaldoaiv in Lapland.

However, this time it wasn’t about any longer hike, but a weekend trip to the Hillagammi hermitage located in the Avvatsohka valley.

– Of course, there were several kilometers of skiing in quite challenging weather conditions with rims, Antti tells Iltalehte.

The headphones fell out of the breast pocket

The weather conditions were difficult on the first day of the trip, but luckily it got easier on the second day. The group headed for the Avvatsohka fell near the Norwegian border.

While skiing down the fell, Antti says that he fell a few times. At one point, he noticed that his breast pocket had opened and the throat lozenges had spread throughout the project.

– I took the Mynthons with me, but I didn’t remember that the headphones were also in the same pocket, he says.

Antti only realized that his earphones had been lost when he got to the cabin.

After taking advantage of Apple’s Airpods positioning and seeing from his phone’s Etsi application that the headphones were several kilometers away on the slope of Avvatsohka, he decided to swallow his loss.

When starting the journey home the next day, Antti told the landlord of the cottage that he had lost his headphones in the fells.

– He just laughed that the reindeer would eat them.

The story continues below the picture.

Apple’s Airpods headphones have a built-in positioning function. You can see the real-time location of the headphones in the phone application. If the battery of the headphones has run out, the application shows their last location. Antti Rossinen

They finally found themselves in Helsinki

Antti remembers that he checked the last location of his headphones on his phone for the next time last March, i.e. a couple of months after the cabin trip. Even at that time, they were located on the same slope on the Norwegian border where they had fallen.

New headphones had to be acquired, and the matter was forgotten.

In December, Antti came again to look at the location of his headphones under the assumption that they are still in the fell. It was quite a surprise when the AirPods were located in Sipoo.

– There is still no information about how they got there.

Antti continued to track his headphones with the Etsi application on his phone. Sometimes they were located in Helsinki Arabia instead of Sipo, sometimes in Itäkeskus.

When Antti was about to leave to get his headphones back, another twist happened. Antti received a message from an unknown person who said that he had found the headphones in Helsinki’s Oulunkylä.

It turned out that the headphones lost in the fells had somehow ended up in Pikkukoski’s garbage can.

– The person from whom I got my headphones back couldn’t tell me anything other than that he had found them in the garbage shed of his apartment building, says Antti.

Marked the headphones as lost

Antti is still not sure how the headphones that were lost in the wilderness of Lapland a year ago ended up in Helsinki.

However, he suspects that the person who found the AirPods in the wilderness had used them without knowing how to restore them to factory settings, which enabled the positioning to continue. At some point, the person who found the headphones had either abandoned or lost them himself.

Antti says that he has connected all the Apple products he owns to his iCloud account. Through this, he was also notified that his headphones were missing.

The person who found the AirPods in the trash can had managed to place the headphones next to their own phone. In this case, the contact information or other message of the owner of the device reported as lost is displayed on the screen of the finder’s phone.

The headphones were returned to Antti completely intact and functioning normally, despite the trials they faced during the year.

– There is nothing wrong with them. When I got them in my hands, I opened the case, and my phone connected to them right away, says Antti.
