Antonov to rebuild world’s largest plane after it was destroyed in fighting for Kiev | Abroad

Ukrainian aircraft manufacturer Antonov plans to build a new example of the world’s largest aircraft. The sole Antonov An-225 was destroyed earlier this year when Russia attempted to occupy Kiev shortly after its invasion of Ukraine. That device, nicknamed Mriya or dream in Ukrainian, was being repaired at the time at an airport near the capital of Ukraine.

LOOK. A Russian channel filmed the remains of the world’s largest plane after it was destroyed during the fighting for Hostomel airport, near the Ukrainian capital Kiev.

Antonov, which is owned by the Ukrainian state, said it had started the design. The company expects to be able to use a third of the destroyed aircraft in the new version. Nevertheless, the aircraft manufacturer thinks it will have to spend at least 500 million euros on a new An-225. Antonov will not give further details until the war with Russia has ended.

The Antonov An-225 first flew in December 1988. The aircraft has a wingspan of 88 meters and six engines. The aircraft can carry more than 250,000 kilograms of cargo and was used to transport large objects. During the corona crisis, the device was used to transport large quantities of corona vaccines.

Since the Mriya was destroyed in the Russian invasion, it has become a symbol of resistance. The plane was, among other things, on a special stamp issued by the Ukrainian postal service.
