Antonio Rudiger’s move to Real Madrid is reportedly perfect. A next career leap for the national player. Sanctions against Russia should also play a role in the decision.
According to a media report, the transfer of German national soccer player Antonio Rüdiger from Chelsea to Real Madrid is perfect. The 29-year-old defender signed a four-year contract with the Spanish champions on Tuesday, according to British magazine The Athletic.
It would be the next transfer of a central defender from the national team after Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck announced their transfers from FC Bayern and SC Freiburg to Borussia Dortmund. Because Rüdiger’s contract with Chelsea expires in the summer, he can leave the Champions League winner for free.
Antonio Rüdiger on Real Madrid: Brilliant under Tuchel
Coach Thomas Tuchel had already confirmed that Rüdiger would leave the Premier League club. Chelsea are currently not allowed to make player transfers or contract negotiations. The reason for this is the British government’s sanctions against the club and its Russian owner, Roman Abramovich.
The billionaire is said to be close to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Because of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, numerous Russian citizens have been sanctioned by Great Britain. Rüdiger switched from AS Roma to Chelsea in the summer of 2017.
With the Blues he won the FA Cup, Europa League, Champions League and Club World Cup. In almost five years at Stamford Bridge, he had five different managers. After he no longer played regularly under Frank Lampard and was about to say goodbye, the defender under Tuchel became one of the top performers in the team. The professional career of the native Berliner started at VfB Stuttgart.
