They have already gathered more than 15,000 signatures to prevent the appointment of Antonio Aracre as Chief of Advisors to the Presidency of the Nation. Who are they? Environmental lawyers, social leaders, academics and even Alice Castrothe leader of the “Soberanxs” collective and former Argentine ambassador to Venezuela during the government of nestor Y Cristina Kirchner.
“He is going to be a preacher of agrochemicals and large estates,” said Castro de Aracre in an interview with AM750. It happens that the chosen one of Alberto Fernández was during 12 years CEO of Syngenta, an agribusiness that manufactures agricultural technology, seeds, and pesticides. That is why the former official described it as “the largest manufacturer of pesticides in the world.” And she added ironically: “The consensus of environmentalists, lawyers, academics, scientists, political leaders, trade unionists, workers is curious.”
According to Castro, Syngenta “is made up of thousands of companies led by (the government of) China with a presence in more than 100 countries.” “In 2021 the largest market was Latin America. This event is not a product of chance. Syngenta was key in the transgenic soybean process that did so much damage in the shifting of the agroecological frontier”, he stated. And he resorted to a saying to shoot the president Alberto Fernandez: “The fault is not the pig, but the one who feeds it.”
Another of the leaders who came out against the new official was Pablo Moyano. It happens that Aracre proposed to bring positions between Kirchnerism and Together for Change in pursuit of a labor reform that “makes processes more flexible and modern.” “I have a year of work ahead of me and I have to set pragmatic objectives. I would like to bring the world of the private to the public,” Aracre had stated in FM. Delta, where he also said that it seemed fundamental to execute and advance in a consensus table with the opposition, with the unions.
“Keep dreaming of carrying out a labor reform. Again the union of truckers with Pablo Moyano, Hugo Moyano and a lot of union organizations are going to reject any attempt at labor reform, as a Peronist we cannot accept any attempt that they want to carry out to harm the workers,” Pablo Moyano replied.
It has not yet been carried out in his position and Aracre is already facing stiff resistance from members of the government alliance itself and from some of its main allies. We will have to see how he overcomes it.
