The experienced former director and former politician Anton Kirkels (VVD) becomes an informateur in Nederweert. He must see which coalition in Nederweert has the best chance of success.
Last Saturday, all six parties from the new city council met for the first time. The discussions took place in a constructive atmosphere, they said afterwards. It was also decided to ask Kirkels as an informant.
In a response, Kirkels reports on Monday that he will get his precise assignment on paper. He said yes because he “has a certain sense of public administration.” He expects to come up with a report and recommendation within about three weeks. Kirkels will enter into talks with all parties in the near future.
Keep up the momentum
Party leader Antoine Hekers of the CDA – with six seats the largest party in the city council – states that an informateur has been chosen to keep up the momentum. It has also been agreed that the parties will remain in the background as long as Kirkels is working on his assignment in order to avoid unnecessary delays, according to Hekers.
It is still being examined how Kirkels’ report will be published. That could be in a public meeting or otherwise.
Other coalition
Nederweert will in any case get a different coalition than the past 4 years. The coalition parties JAN, Nederweert Anders and D66 together only won 8 of the 17 seats and therefore no longer have a majority. That was because JAN and Nederweert Anders each lost a seat. D66 remained the same. In addition to the CDA, the VVD and the debuting GroenLinks, the other parties in the city council are.
Kirkels
Informer Anton Kirkels was active in a public position for more than 20 years. From November 1997 to March 2006 he was a councilor for the VVD in Weert. After that he was alderman in that municipality for almost two periods. Kirkels was a member of parliament from 2011 to March 2019.
