In the football game against the city rival Nippes 78 II, “massive anti -Semitic and violent attacks” were said to have occurred on players of TuS Makkabi Cologne.
Accordingly, during and after the game won by Makkabi with 7-2 on Sunday, “the players were badly insulted”, as the Jewish roof sports association Makkabi Germany and Makkabi Cologne announced on Instagram in a statement.
Two players were “spit on, others were physically attacked after the final whistle – choked, beaten, pulled on the hair”. “A viewer hit one of our players in the face,” it said.
Opponent rejects allegations
Cengiz Kirat, Head of Football from Nippes 78 II, rejected the allegations. “I’m shocked. I don’t understand that, I’m surprised by the claim,” said Cengiz of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”.
He saw no attacks after the game that Makkabi reported. Also “nothing happened during the game, that went completely decent. I didn’t hear anything,” he said.
Legal steps initiated
The chairman of TuS Makkabi Cologne, Witek Krymalowski, confirmed to the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” that his club had filed a complaint with the Cologne public prosecutor.
In addition, the sports court of the Middle Rhine Football Association and the anti-Semitism representative of North Rhine-Westphalia, Sylvia Löhrmann, were informed. Hard consequences are required.
