Lhe Italian Constitution is “a dream made by smart men”I don’t think there is a more poetic definition of this sentence by Roberto Benigni. I would have added also by smart women, given that among the 556 founding fathers there were also 21 women.
Not many, certainly, but considering that during fascism women had even been forbidden to teach except in teaching institutes and that any possibility of work and career was discouraged with laws specifically designed to keep them at home, not to mention the sad of family law which relegated them to the role of “object” possessed by the husband, that’s it we can cry wonder if our pioneers sat in the Constituent Assembly with dignity equal to that of their male colleagues.
A story that should be remembered like all articles of the Constitution. I asked myself with amazement why the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Italian Constitution at the Sanremo Festival caused so much dissent and annoyance. I couldn’t find an answer.
Who can feel offended by the homage to the ideals that are the basis of our civilized life? Maybe who regrets a historical period in which these values were trampled on? But I’m not interested in going into the reasons for the pros and cons…
I have participated in various roles in four Sanremo festivals and each time I have seen controversy break out depending on who was in charge at that political moment: that doesn’t impress me that much.
Rather we should ask ourselves whether the articles drawn up by the constituent fathers and mothers have been put into practice or not in these 75 years. And the answer, sadly, is no. An essay by Gherardo Colombo is now coming out to remind us of this Anti-constitution. How we have rewritten (for the worse) the principles of our society (Guarantees). Colombo’s analysis is ruthless and punctual and offers us the opportunity to reflect on our society, on who we are and above all on who we have become.
Unfortunately, principles are often not respected in everyday life and the gap between theory and reality today seems unbridgeable. The provocative reading of Colombo which analyzes all the broken promises one by one it gives us a new charge to maintain them and complete the work of the dreamers who had written them for us.
Recommended book for the new generations, hope as always is in their hands.
