Anthony Modeste “not because of the money” to BVB

After completing his move to Borussia Dortmund, Anthony Modeste said goodbye emotionally to 1. FC Köln and his fans via Instagram.

“I knew that day would come but I didn’t know when or how… Deep down I always hoped it would come as late as possible and why shouldn’t I have ended my career in Cologne? But definitely The facts of football mean that you cannot control fate,” wrote the Frenchman, who signed for BVB on Monday for a year and is to act as a substitute for Sébastien Haller, who is suffering from cancer.

Modeste added: “You can’t forget 7 years in life. I signed for FC on the day my son was born. It will be engraved in my heart forever. 7 years in which we experienced laughter, tears, joy and sorrow .”

“I am and will remain an ardent supporter of FC Köln. And FC will always be in my heart. This club will always be something special for me,” said the 34-year-old.

In the statement, Modeste also commented on the reasons for his BVB change: “As many might think, I’m not going because of the money. I turned down big offers from the Gulf countries. I’ve always had the dream of experiencing the Champions League , and that opportunity has presented itself to me now. I don’t think it will come again.”

In addition to those responsible, employees and teammates, Modeste also explicitly thanked the fans of 1. FC Köln: “You are the heart of this club, without you all it would not make sense,” he concluded his message.

Anthony Modeste’s statement in full:

“I knew that day would come but I didn’t know when or how… Deep down I always hoped it would come as late as possible and why shouldn’t I have ended my career in Cologne?

But certain realities of football mean you can’t control destiny.

You can’t forget 7 years in life. I signed for FC on the day my son was born. That will be etched in my heart forever. 7 years in which we have experienced laughter, tears, joy and sorrow. And these are circumstances that have strengthened my love for FC Köln. I will never forget that.

I am and will remain an ardent supporter of FC Köln. And FC will always be in my heart. This club will always be something special for me.

As many might think, I’m not going for the money. I turned down big offers from the Gulf countries. It’s always been a dream of mine to experience the Champions League and now that opportunity has presented itself to me. I don’t think she will come again.

Thank you for everything! Thanks to all the leaders I’ve worked with. Thank you to all the staff who have always been there for me. To all my teammates, without whom everything I have accomplished would not have been possible. And a big THANK YOU to you dear fans: you are the heart of this club, without you all it wouldn’t make sense!”
