Coach Steffen Baumgart from 1. FC Köln has commented on the speculation that striker Anthony Modeste had been offered to Borussia Dortmund.
“It’s nothing out of the ordinary. We are also offered players who are under contract elsewhere,” Baumgart told “Bild”.
Modeste is under contract with the Domstädter until 2023. At BVB he is considered a possible replacement for Sébastien Haller, who suffers from testicular cancer.
Dortmund are said to want to present a new striker this week or next week at the latest. Among other things, the “WAZ” had reported that Modeste was also a candidate.
Anthony Modeste fits the BVB profile
According to reports, the 34-year-old Frenchman fits BVB’s profile both in terms of football and business, who can probably put together a total package of around ten million euros for his new nine.
There have been numerous rumors surrounding Modeste’s future at 1. FC Köln for weeks and months. There was also talk of lucrative offers from the Arab world.
Baumgart, who brought the attacker out of his slump last season, has not yet given up hope that Modeste will stay. “But we have to manage it under conditions that we can both live with,” said the successful coach. “It’s about Tony not wanting to retire in a year. Nobody here said we didn’t want him anymore! And nobody said we didn’t want Tony to continue!”
