Angelique Kerber is currently taking a tennis break due to her pregnancy. Meanwhile, the three-time Grand Slam winner is already making comeback plans, as she has now revealed.
Angelique Kerber is currently expecting her first child. The 34-year-old will therefore be absent from the WTA tour in the coming months. However, the German is not yet thinking about the end of her career. Instead, Keber is aiming for her return in the second half of 2023.
Return to the US Open?
“I think I’ll come back at the end of the year. So more like New York than Wimbledon, but if it’s possible in Wimbledon, then gladly there too,” revealed the former number one in an interview with “Sport Bild”. While the lawn classic in London starts on July 3rd, the US Open will open on August 28th.
Kerber knows what it’s like to be a mother in the tennis circus from conversations with Kim Clijsters, among other things. “I’ve talked about that before with Kim, who even won the US Open twice as a mom, and also with Victoria Azarenka. The topic just interested me, even though I wasn’t pregnant,” revealed the 2018 Wimbledon winner.
Angelique Kerber is currently still playing tennis
Kerber is currently still playing tennis and doing other sports. “Cardio, cycling, cross trainer, walking, stability exercises, everything is included,” she told the sports magazine.
Kerber revealed about the pregnancy: “Everyone asks if I’m suddenly eating other things. But I haven’t discovered anything new. I have the feeling that I’m eating healthier than I already am. But there’s nothing that I suddenly have cravings for.”
After her tennis break, Kerber has to work her way up the world rankings again. The three-time Grand Slam winner is currently in 99th place in the WTA ranking.
