Raven van Dorst (37) identifies as non-binary and likes to be called ‘them’ or ‘those’, rather than ‘he’ or ‘her’. Their guest Anouk (47) briefly blundered in the ratings hit Farm Van Dorst by calling Raven ‘her’ and ‘it’ on Sunday evening. It happened when she wanted to warn fellow guest Gordon when he nearly set Raven on fire.
It, him, he, her
Anouk shouted: “Look out for her!” Then quickly: “To it! Him, he, her. What is it? What the hell am I saying?! To them! Them!”
Raven: “You can’t say ‘it’, you can’t. You can do it, because I have such a soft spot for you.”
Raven soon talked about it by eliciting from Anouk that she uses botox.
Anouk woke?
Anouk who doesn’t know how to address Raven… Is she woke? She answers in the podcast 30 Minutes Raw van Ruud de Wild: “Well, I don’t believe it. I don’t know. With a lot of things that happen I think: oh, I don’t know. That all goes so far for me. I sometimes notice that I am a bit old. I just don’t understand anymore.”
It is not that she necessarily wants to stick to the old, emphasizes Anouk. “I want to understand so badly, huh, I have children.”
‘I thought: shit’
Things went wrong for Raven. “I was on Raven’s farm and then I notice that I have a lot of trouble and then I say, ‘Oh, you’re a nice girl!’ Then I think: shit, I can’t say that anymore, what should I say? So I say, ‘What am I supposed to say? Nice it?’ ‘No, what?! It really can’t be!’”
Anouk herself also knows that calling someone ‘it’ is a bit insulting. “Then I think: no, of course that is not possible! It’s an object! Do I have to tell them, they, what do you want?! I find that difficult, because you don’t want to make someone feel really bad because of what you say.”
‘I watch too little’
Anouk doesn’t want to offend anyone. “I would like to do well without offending anyone, but I also notice that I sometimes suffer a bit because I’m not quite into it anymore, so to speak.”
Because she hardly follows the media, Anouk does not know how to deal with changes in society. “I really don’t watch enough shit, I don’t watch much TV, I don’t watch the news anymore. That makes me very unhappy. For years. I don’t want anything to do with it, but because of that I miss a lot.”
