Another two dead cats found in Hoogeveense Vaart

Two dead cats were found again in the Hoogeveense Vaart by the Animal Ambulance. The Krakeel district of Hoogeveen has been plagued in recent weeks by cats that have gone missing and were found dead in the canal.

“The counter now stands at nine in the past month.” Tina Gosink from the Animal Ambulance has often been found along the Hoogeveens Vaart in recent days looking for missing cats. And today, to her great regret, it happened again. “We got two more cats out of the canal today.”

“We found the owner of one of the cats. And then you see the tears in the children,” says Gosink. It is not yet known who is behind these outrages, but the cats are killed by someone and thrown into the water. “Today we found a cat with a tie wrap around its neck. And normally cats get very upset when they drown, but that is not always the case.”

When a dead cat is found, the Animal Ambulance first checks whether the animal has a chip. If this is not the case, the cat will be reported to Amivedi, where anyone can search for or report a (missing) animal.

Reports of missing cats are flooding in on the Missing Pets Hoogeveen Facebook page. Last week there were already more than twenty. Gosink then hoped that the police would take action quickly. On October 26, one of the local residents will report the incident to the police, and Gosink hopes that an investigation can then be initiated.

Until then, the neighborhood and the Animal Ambulance are still in the dark, because there is no clue to a possible perpetrator yet. “A lady found a chair and a stool in a bush this afternoon, but we can’t do much with them.” The animal ambulance travels extra often along the Hoogeveense Vaart and local residents are also extra alert.
