It is unclear where and when Frolov died. It is also unclear how he died. Frolov was deputy commander of the Eighth Army.
The governor of Saint Petersburg attended the funeral on Saturday. “Today we say goodbye to a real hero,” he said. “Vladimir Petrovich Frolov died a heroic death in the struggle against Ukrainian nationalists.” He also called Frolov a “true patriot” who “sacrificed his life so that children, women and the elderly in the Donbas region would no longer hear bomb explosions.”
Despite the loss of military generals, President Putin continues to claim that his “special military operation” is going according to plan. Ukraine claims as many as 20,000 Russian soldiers have been killed since the invasion began. On the Ukrainian side it would be about 2500 to 3000 soldiers.
Faulty communication systems
Russian generals are killed in high numbers on the Ukrainian front. According to US intelligence services, about 20 generals are involved in the invasion of Ukraine. The death of so many senior officers is in part due to the Russian military’s flawed communication systems, which often force commanders to communicate with each other through open channels.
Senior officers should also report directly to the front more often to solve the many problems and boost the low morale of the Russian soldiers. In addition, according to President Zelensky, Ukraine has set up a special team to trace Russian generals and commanders.
By comparison, in the more than twenty years since September 11, 2001, only one American general was killed in the long wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria. He was killed in a terrorist attack.
