Another red card at Telstar: “You expect an experienced player to solve that more intelligently”

After four scoreless games it seemed like it was finally going to happen; Telstar was well on its way to a draw against VVV-Venlo. Martijn Berden plunged the White Lions into mourning: 1-2. Painfully enough, Telstar also received the third red card in five matches via Mees Kaandorp.

Telstar coach Mike Snoei: “Mees came into the dressing room afterwards to say sorry. He feels very responsible, but the referee was absolutely right. It was a foul, but you expect an experienced player to solve it more intelligently.”

Just like against SC Cambuur, the game was briefly stopped after VVV-Venlo’s equalizer. “It has often been pointed out that you don’t have to stop drinking a joy beer at all. However, no decision has been made about that. It is a great pity, because there is no ill will in that.”

It was around 28 degrees in Velsen-Zuid during the match. “Only add another three to four degrees on that artificial grass,” Joey Houweling responds to the heat. He replaced the injured Ronald Koeman Jr. under the bar. “You just have to forget about that heat and not give up.”

Houweling was also quite disappointed that the goal came just before the end. “If you come through the same side three times, you have already been warned and all the alarm bells should go off. You are with ten men, then 1-1 is also a result. Of course, you want to win.”

Another tough away match awaits Telstar next Friday. Mike Snoei’s team will then visit Roda JC, the current leader in the first division. Kick-off is 8 p.m.
