Another painful defeat for MVV | 1Limburg

MVV has suffered a sensitive 2-3 defeat against Jong AZ. The people of Maastricht seemed to be on their way to a victory with a 2-1 lead. In the final phase, the Alkmaarders still managed to take the win.

MVV has not won a home game since October 15 last year. In addition, Klaas Wels’ team has now dropped to the penultimate place in the ranking.

downer
Despite all the good intentions, MVV was again behind after eleven minutes played. There were several failures in the build-up, which eventually led to a clumsy loss of the ball. Two passes later, Jong AZ striker Iman Griffith was able to take the ball in through the inside of the post for the 0-1.

Opportunities
MVV did have chances to score goals in the first half hour. Sven Blummel had already scored the opening goal in the fifth minute. After a poor defense by Jong AZ, Blummel was able to curl the ball in, but his shot went wide. A few minutes after the deficit, Mart Remans was able to shoot on target after a nice through-pass through the air. Remans managed to hit the aluminum from a difficult angle, but did not score a goal for the home team.

lake
More than a month after his dream debut against ADO Den Haag, striker Toshio Lake also failed to score. He should have changed that by the end of the first half. After the team from Alkmaar lost the ball, he was sent off with a long pass. After a dribble in the 16 meters he was able to shoot in from close range, but goalkeeper Sem Westerveld found his way.

equalizer
The people of Maastricht came out of the dressing room a lot stronger in the second half. Where the chances in the first half were more by chance, better football was shown in the opening phase of the second half. In the 54th minute this was rewarded by Sven Blummel who controlled a cross from substitute Mitchel Keulen in the goal of Jong AZ.

Hunt
Boosted by the goal, MVV immediately went on the hunt for the lead. Again it was Lake who had to score, but failed face to face with goalkeeper Westerveld. Immediately afterwards, Orhan Džepar got a chance, but for the second time in the match the bar was hit by the Maastricht team.

touch again
In the 66th minute MVV was rewarded for the better game. This time, Džepar shot the ball in on a pass from Elano Yegen from the right wing. MVV could not enjoy the hard-fought lead for long. Just three minutes later, the score was 2-2. A prolonged attack by Jong AZ over many discs eventually ended up with Mexx Meerdink. He was released for goalkeeper Romain Matthys and controlled the equalizer in the long corner.

Empty hands
It was an open final phase with opportunities for both teams who both went for the win. In the 88th minute it eventually became Jong AZ that took the lead. A nice long shot by Mohamed Taabouni flew into the intersection and thus determined the final score at 2-3 for the visitors. For MVV this is already the tenth loss of the last eleven games played.
