A car burned out again at Volhardingstraat in Haarlem around 4:20 a.m. last night. It has been hitting more often in Haarlem lately, since the beginning of May, cars have already burned out in five streets.
“Arson has not been ruled out,” said a police spokesman. “Whether there is a connection with the previous car fires in Haarlem is being investigated.”
The car is parked in a disabled parking space and may belong to someone with a disability. The spokesperson cannot confirm this, but finds it annoying for the owner of the car anyway.
The police are investigating the car fire and call on residents who have heard or seen anything to report.
Since the beginning of May there have been many nocturnal fires in the Bertha von Suttner Streetin the Wadden Streetthe Doctor Schaepmanstraat and Rudolf Slanskystraat and this weekend in the Linschoten Street. The side of a house was also damaged.

Criminologist Anton van Wijk said earlier that these matters are very complicated for the police. “I sometimes say: the evidence goes up in flames. The chance of being caught is very small.” Van Wijk has investigated ‘serial arsonists’. According to him, the perpetrator group of vehicle fires is very varied.
The police suspect that the cars were set on fire. “Nine times out of 10 – in the middle of the night – it’s arson,” a spokesperson said over the weekend. Whether the suspicion of arson can also be substantiated is not yet certain. “The first question is whether you can determine the traces. The next question is what those traces say.”
