The chances of Ellyes Skhiri remaining at 1. FC Köln are obviously not very good. According to “Bild”, league rival RB Leipzig is said to have expressed interest in the 27-year-old defensive midfielder of the Bundesliga soccer club.
Skhiri’s contract with the Rhinelanders is only valid until the end of this season, so he could move on a free transfer. According to the report, RB sports director Rouven Schröder (47) is said to have followed Cologne’s 0-1 draw against SC Freiburg at the end of April because of the Tunisian international’s strong running and tackling in the stadium.
Skhiri has been playing for FC since 2019 and is one of the top performers under coach Steffen Baumgart. In 130 games he scored 19 goals for Cologne. At the World Cup in Qatar, Skhiri was in the starting eleven in all three preliminary round games.
Gladbach, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund have also been said to be interested.
