‘I’ll just say it in plain Dutch: the Public Prosecution Service could not afford to leave the court and the defense ignorant of these documents.’ In short, that is the reason why, according to the public prosecutor, the trial about the murder of Peter R. de Vries had to be reopened, which is very exceptional. That trial – ‘Iraqlia’ – was closed a week and a half ago pending a ruling on July 14. The two suspects, Delano G. and Kamil E., have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

On 5 July, this officer said he received explosive, new information from colleagues for the first time: an anonymous witness made secret statements about the person responsible for the murder of De Vries.

This witness is a friend of Krystian M., who was arrested last week for allegedly directing Delano G. and Kamil E. in the assassination attempt. According to that friend, both Krystian M. and Kamil E. were threatened and forced to have De Vries killed.

According to the public prosecutor, these new statements could not be used earlier because the protection of this anonymous friend of M. had not yet been completed. The information “does not shed new light” on the suspicions against Delano G. and Kamil E., the prosecutor said Monday. So, according to him, the new pieces can be added in the process, but it is not ‘necessary’. And as far as he is concerned, the ruling can continue next Thursday, whether the documents are joined or not.

Difference between life sentence and temporary sentence

‘You can’t sell that dry-eyed’, Ayse Çimen bites the prosecutor. She is Kamil E.’s lawyer, and states that the new witness stated that her client was initially supposed to kill De Vries herself, but that he refused to shoot. Subsequently, Kamil E. would have been forced to act as the getaway driver or else he would be killed. “This could make the difference between a life sentence and a temporary sentence for my client,” imen said.

Kamil E. and Delano G. are not physically present in the court room in the Amsterdam court on Monday, but they are on screens via a video connection from the prisons in Lelystad and Krimpen aan den IJssel, where they are detained.

E.’s lawyer Çimen emphasizes that “you know more when you follow newspapers, the news and podcasts than when you read the documents in this case.” She ‘doesn’t believe’ that the case officer did not already know about the statements of the anonymous witness, who establishes a link between Marengo main suspect Ridouan T., and the executors of the murder of Peter R. de Vries, who was an adviser and confidential adviser. of Marengo crown witness Nabil B.

“Three new people were arrested in this case last week,” she argues. One of them, Krystian M., who is already incarcerated for possible involvement in a murder attempt in Zeewolde, was transferred after the turn of the year from the penitentiary in Arnhem to the one in Krimpen aan den IJssel, where her client has been staying for months. “That won’t be a coincidence.” She means by this to say: The Public Prosecution Service had known for a long time that this newly arrested suspect was involved in the murder. According to the counsel, he would have been transferred to Krimpen in the hope that he would communicate with Kamil E. about incriminating facts.

Delano G.’s lawyer Ronald van der Horst also does not believe that the officer “knew nothing at all” about the newly submitted statements until last week. “That is a point of displeasure to which I will now draw no consequence.”

disrupt society

In addition to Krystian M., two more men were arrested in Spain and Curaçao last week. They would have filmed the attack on Peter R. de Vries with the assignment to spread the shocking images on social media in order to disrupt society.

The court eventually adds the new statements of the anonymous witness about Kamil E. and Ridouan T. in the trial about the murder of Peter R. de Vries, and will not make a decision next Thursday. Instead, a pre-trial hearing will be organized at the end of October, in which all parties to the proceedings can submit new research wishes.

The family of Peter R. de Vries is disappointed that the verdict in the murder case will be postponed on Thursday. “I understand the decision, but it is tough,” said De Vries’ son Royce after the session. ‘You prepare yourself for a verdict, then it is difficult when you suddenly hear that it will take months longer. Because you hope to finally be able to cross something out.’
