Aníbal Fernández, the minister in the crosshairs K

The last time they had serious differences they fixed it with a poem. It was in 2018, when Cristina Kirchner and Aníbal Fernández They hadn’t spoken for almost a year: in between there were misgivings about lost elections, unshared decisions, and also some more personal concerns. In that meeting in Recoletathe man recited a phrase of Gabriel Garcia Marquez he barely saw her: “Women say that couple problems are resolved with dialogue, but a problem that is discussed ends up in a lawsuit for sure. First you have to trust, then forget and then move on”.

But, four years and an assassination attempt later, it would seem that the disputes between the now Minister of Security and Kirchnerism are not going to be resolved only with an “annihilation.” In that space they reproach him for not having lived up to the cfk care and now the relationship is going through a bad time, in a cloud that also reaches his own President Albert Fernandez.

Sparks. Aníbal is the founding line of the space and, with twenty positions in the public service under his belt, he has the back to move as a libero. Because he knows that he has backs, he has been accumulating disagreements with Kirchnerism: his resistance to The Campora -“Political maximum has no idea”, he said- dates from his frustrated campaign in Buenos Aires in 2015 and also before. But the succession of events in recent times has taken that ridiculousness to another level.

It is that, before the failed assassination, the camporismo and the minister had had crosses. In the corridor of the Government there are several that trace the problem back to its genesis: the fact that Aníbal arrived at the ministry being a historical figure of Kirchnerism but that since then he has appeared, internally, much closer to the President. The minister played for Alberto at every crossroads that the president had. He defended Guzmán and Kulfas cape and sword and Alberto after the party in Olivos, and he is one of the few who continues to bet on his re-election. He even targeted the vice president herself for the constant darts that she sends to her running mate. “Cristinista arrived and now he plays with Alberto, he is a pimp,” Kirchner reproaches him. Aníbal, on the other hand, supports the version that the President is only one and that in Peronism the one with the cane leads.

Stones. The first strong shake was after the attack on the office of CFK in the Senate, in March. The fielder Andres Larroqueamong others, pointed out the lack of protection provided by the Government, and Hannibal picked up the glove and they had a Twitter controversy.

But the straw that broke the camel’s back was the assassination attempt on CFK. It was a striking sequence: after the famous incident with the Larreta fences, a ruling by the Buenos Aires judge Robert Gallardo determined that the security of the streets of Recoleta would pass into the hands of the Federal Police, that is, Aníbal. Seven days later the frustrated assassination came, and all the darts K -from “Wado” by Pedro to Juliana Di Tullioto name a few – fell on the minister. Hebe de Bonafini He even asked to be kicked out.

In the midst of this complex climate, Aníbal offered Alberto his resignation. “Don’t waste a second defending me, my resignation is available,” he told her after a Cabinet meeting where the President had seated him next to him. Alberto, who knows that he no longer has too many loyal ones, did not accept her and days later they were traveling together to the United States. It was the first presidential tour in which the minister participated. “It was a wet ear to get him on the plane and show him so much, take him to dinner with Macron,” critics say.

Her and him. The meeting was requested by the Cristina and lasted an hour and a half. She went to her house in Recoleta, a week after the failed assassination attempt. “Not once did he talk to me about the Police or he made a complaint to me in that regard”Hannibal says. The idea that floats in the Ministry of Security is that criticism K comes from those who are mores Papists than the Pope. “I’m fine with her, then everyone can give their opinion. But it is true that what happened to Hebe hurt my soul”, says the official. Those who love Aníbal are less contemplative: “The campers want to saw him, they operate on him from all sides.”

One month after the assassination attempt on Cristina, Aníbal continues to defend his police chief (see box) and, above all, remains in his position. “Everyone has an opinion about soccer and security and most of them don’t know anything,” he says. It seems that there are still annibaladas for a while longer.
