Hannibal Fernandez is celebrating It is true that it is a moderate celebration: in the dunes of Cariló, almost on the border with Villa Gesell, there is no music, guests or large cakes with candles on top. The Security Minister is only accompanied by his wife, his eldest son, two coolers for the beach and the military green gazebo that is already a classic of coastal summers. There is also “Gardel”, the book he wrote Philip Pigna and that the official was reading when he found it NEWS. “Just today they appear here?”, launches Aníbal, as a welcome from the team of this magazine. Of course, the man has just turned 65 and wants to take a day to relax with his family, although no one is making it easy for him: despite the fact that the clock just strikes twelve noon on Sunday the 9th, he already has more than 500 greetings in his cell phone, which he answers one by one. “To be a birthday is no merit but I still congratulate you,” says his Buenos Aires peer, Serge Bernie, with the acidity that characterizes him, among hundreds of other greetings that accumulate on his WhatsApp.

It was a busy week for the minister. As instructed by the President, Fernández only passed through Cariló, the coastal resort where he has a house and where he was even a candidate for councilor in 2019, on weekends. In his original plans he was to celebrate his 65th birthday surrounded by friends, but the advance of the pandemic prevented him from doing so. “It seemed to us that this was not the time to gather people at home, if you invite one you end up inviting 20 and for now it is better not to,” explains his wife, wary of the virus. A curiosity: on Saturday 8, one day before the anniversary of Aníbal, his partner in the Cabinet, Juan Luis Manzur, did the exact same thing. He was in Pinamar to celebrate his birthday, but he did so only surrounded by his family and was not even seen on the beach.
Perhaps because of the health and political care that he took, Hannibal found it heavy to broadcast the video that shows the head of the PAMI, Luana Volnovich, summering in Mexico with his partner. “I am not anyone’s guard, but look where I am. I am also in the Caribbean”, launched the minister ironically from the Casa Rosada, upon his return from Cariló. Fernández gave voice to a generalized anger that spread among the albertismo against the official camporista. There are many members of the presidential circle who did not take more than a weekend to rest and who, in contrast, disliked the images of Volnovich on the Caribbean beaches. It was not the only dart Hannibal threw on his return from the Atlantic coast. The minister also targeted the Argentine ambassador in Nicaragua, Daniel Capitanich, who shared an act with Moshen Rezai, one of those accused of the attack on the AMIA. “A horror, if I was the ambassador I would not have introduced myself”, he described it, in a criticism that could bring some tail in the internal: the ambassador is the brother of Jorge, the governor of Chaco, one who no longer even hides his intentions of competing in PASO 2023 with the idea of unseating Alberto. Aníbal prefers not to talk about politics on his birthday, but he assures that 2022 will be a great year for Argentina and also for the Government. He also says that the turbulence that the Frente de Todos had -in the midst of which he ended up arriving at the ministry- is already behind him. “What happened was stupid, but that’s it, it’s not going to happen again.”
There was another storm the minister surfed before the end of last year. It was the commotion that arose when the news was published that involved him with an alleged romance with Esmeralda Miter. The issue escalated strongly in the media but the descendant of the founder of La Nación took care to deny it. Before, she spoke with Aníbal, whom she knew because he had helped her in the past as a lawyer. She was the one who told the minister that she was going to go out to clarify the version, a gesture that Fernández appreciated. No crack.
