The new coach Alexander Zorniger wants to lead second division soccer team SpVgg Greuther Fürth “to better times as quickly as possible”.

The new coach Alexander Zorniger wants to lead second division soccer team SpVgg Greuther Fürth “to better times as quickly as possible”. The 55-year-old stands for aggressive, uncompromising attacking football.

After his first training session on Monday (October 24th, 2022), Zorniger indicated how he intends to revive the cloverleaf that has slipped to the bottom of the table: “Anyone who has followed my path a bit knows that something is going on on the pitch. That we want to do it again.”

Zorniger was last under contract with Apollon Limassol in Cyprus and before that with Brondby IF in Copenhagen. In Germany he has worked for RB Leipzig (2012 to 2015) and VfB Stuttgart. In the Swabians, Zorniger failed after only ten points from 13 games with hooray football. Since then, however, he has not changed his playing philosophy.

With “aggressiveness and swarm intelligence” up

For his game “we need a high degree of basic aggressiveness, we need a certain swarm intelligence that everyone knows what the other is doing. It may take a little time, but anyone can be aggressive,” Zorniger explained his ideas after the first unit on the lawn.

The 55-year-old is the successor to Swiss Marc Schneider, who is on leave, and has signed a contract in Fürth until the summer of 2024. He will make his debut as a coach in Fürth on Friday evening (6.30 p.m.) at home in a duel between the two Bundesliga teams who have been relegated against Arminia Bielefeld.
