Angry Birds flying to Japan – Sega offers 706 million euros for Rovio

The Finnish game company Rovio, known for the Angry Birds game, has received an offer from the Japanese company Sega. The offer as a whole is about 706 million euros, which is less than expected. Iltalehti previously reported that the offer is expected to rise to 900 million euros.

Sega is known for its previously produced game consoles and its Sonic the Hedgehog game.

According to Rovio’s press release, 49.1 percent of shareholders are ready to accept the purchase offer under certain conditions.

Sega’s offer is exactly EUR 9.25 per share to shareholders. For options, Sega has offered 1.48 euros per option. Rovio has a total of approximately 76 million shares and 742 thousand options.

Rovio’s board of directors recommends acceptance of the offer to the holders of shares and options.

Rovio previously rejected the offer of the Israeli game company Playtika, which was 9.05 euros per share.
