The German tennis professionals Angelique Kerber and Alexander Zverev have reached the round of 16 at the tournament in Indian Wells.
Kerber confidently won her third round match against Weronika Kudermetowa 6:4, 7:5 and celebrated her next success after her baby break. Zverev also defeated Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor in two sets 7:6 (9:7), 6:3.
In the round of 16, Kerber will face former world number one Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark. “I felt good,” said the 36-year-old after her win: “I hit the balls well and moved well. I’m on the way to playing good tennis again against the best players.”
It was only on Wednesday that Kerber achieved her first victory in an individual tournament at the third attempt after the birth of her daughter Liana, and now she has already celebrated her third success in a row.
Alexander Zverev is getting better and better
Zverev is also getting better and better at the Masters tournament. After a successful start to the year including reaching the semi-finals at the Australian Open in Melbourne, things have recently been rather sobering for the world number six at the tournaments in Los Cabos and Acapulco. In the round of 16, Zverev will now face Australian Alex De Minaur.
Jan-Lennard Struff missed this. The Warsteiner clearly lost his third round match against the Australian Open winner and world number three Jannik Sinner 3:6, 4:6. It was the Italian’s 17th win in a row.
