Angela Groothuizen has looked horrified at the revelations about Ali B and his fellow predators at The Voice of Holland. That is what the coach of The Voice Senior says on NPO Radio 1.
Like millions of other Dutch people, Angela Groothuizen also watched the BOOS revelations about the misconduct of her Voice colleagues Ali B, Jeroen Rietbergen, Marco Borsato and director Martijn. ANGRY was really impressive, let’s be honest,” says the presenter in the program The Press Stand†
Horrified
Angela sat watching in amazement. “I sat there too and thought: wow, you’ve really done this well. It’s very double, isn’t it: I was really looking in horror and at the same time I admired that they did that. It touched me, but I thought it was very good.”
Already five days before the BOOS broadcast, RTL put all Voice series on hold† “I was called by RTL on Saturday morning, because I still remain part of the family, that aunt who comes every now and then. Then I saw it. It had spread like an oil slick across the internet. I thought: what happened here?! After three hours I thought: what is this?!”
aftershocks
Angela still cannot fully comprehend what has happened. “Now we are all still a bit shocked by what is out there. I just looked at Waylon at Beau and I think he tells how we all feel, from: what have I not been paying attention to? Have I not been alert enough?”
“You are working very long days and working hard. That you think: when was that supposed to happen? This affects us all and I also think we should all take responsibility that something has happened that has really damaged people and made them feel very unsafe.”
Away from RTL?
Does stopping The Voice Senior also mean the end of Angela at RTL? “Holland’s Got Talent will be back next year and I’m not one of them. Maybe The Voice Senior will come back someday, but you never know if they still want you. Right now I did The Tribute and it was a blast from start to finish.”
At Holland’s Got Talent, Angela worked together with Ali B. He will of course not return to the jury. The other two judges in the past season were Chantal Janzen and Paul de Leeuw.
Rejuvenation
According to Albert Verlinde, Angela’s departure from Holland’s Got Talent has to do with rejuvenation. He says in Shownieuws: “A new season is coming, but Ali B will of course not be there, Paul de Leeuw has already returned to BNNVARA and Chantal will, everyone thinks, stay with it. It looks like they are going to completely rejuvenate the jury.”
“There is also talk of Dan Karaty returning to the program. We will see. I actually think that RTL thinks: what is a fresh team that we can put down there that we can fill the coming years of the program with?”
