‘Angela de Jong would never say this to my face’

For TV stars, it is very important that Angela de Jong writes something nice about you, because once she is against you, you better take care of yourself. Khalid & Sophie know all about it; the AD opinion dragon has intensified its attacks on the duo to such an extent that the next step should be some sort of ground attack with Angela rushing in.

Monica the clock

But Monica Geuze is also in trouble now that she has such a prominent role in the TV hit The Masked Singer. She gets a lot of flak from Angela. The AD diva finds her ‘very annoying’ in the program. How does something like this happen?

She says on the talk show Open Card: “I don’t mind it in a way, but of course it affects me. What I’m doing now at The Masker is something completely new for me and I really enjoy it, so I try to stick to it very much, like: dude, this is fun, this is what you want, so then you shouldn’t give a shit about what other people say about that.”

‘Oh yeah, shit’

Monica was shocked by Angela’s harsh criticism. “Of course: if I’m sitting on the couch at home and you read that about yourself, it doesn’t make you feel better. I think: oh yeah, shit. It’s much nicer, of course, when people say: ‘Well, what a nice addition she is and how great it is!’ But I understand very well that there is criticism.”

She continues: “I mean, you come on in season five and it’s such a well-watched show and suddenly, after four seasons, there’s a change. Yes, I completely understand that not everyone wants that. I used to have that with The Voice when another coach came there.”

You notice that TV is a completely different world, says Monica. “Everything I have done so far has been online or on Videoland and then you can click: I feel like watching this, but on TV… Yes, you just turn on the television on Friday evening and no one asks me, so If you suddenly appear, then I understand that there will be criticism.”

She continues: “Do I like it? No. It can indeed make me quite insecure, but on the other hand I also think: the whole season is already over, so I can’t do much about the criticism that is coming now.”

Annoying woman

Monica thinks it’s a shame that Angela makes it so unconstructive. “I especially like constructive criticism, but if someone says about you: ‘I find her a terribly irritating woman’… Yes, sorry, I can’t do anything with that. I feel bad about that, but hey, I can’t do anything with it, so there’s no point in worrying about it.”

This criticism is also very virtual, Monica concludes. “Angela, I dare you, but I don’t think that if I ever meet her in person, she will still say to me: ‘I find you such a terribly irritating woman.’ If she is allowed to do that, it will be a bit of an uncomfortable situation, but that often doesn’t happen.”
