Angela de Jong gets red ears at VI, lower viewing figures due to football

Angela de Jong was finally at the table at VI Today yesterday. She was actually supposed to come earlier, but canceled because of her media quarrel with Johan Derksen. Now the two are back together again.

They both belong to the scarce group of quite conservative Dutch celebrities: Angela de Jong and Johan Derksen. The VI camp therefore often responded with great approval to her columns. Until she came across Johan’s boss John de Mol. He was furious about the ‘speech’ she was waging against him.

heel licker

It led to a huge media feud between Angela and Johan, with her even calling him a ‘heel licker’. She decided shortly afterwards to cancel her performance on the program. “She feels like she doesn’t belong here at the moment. It’s a shame,” Wilfred Genee explained at the time in the talk show.

Now Angela was still there. “I still don’t think I quite fit here and I also wonder if it’s going to be a huge success, but I didn’t think it was especially appropriate after that whole statement from Linda that got turned off. Then I should have reacted to that and Johan and I sat here arguing about what she did and didn’t know.”

smear

Angela didn’t feel like that. “Because that’s not what this scandal is about, it’s about the victims. And not whether one celebrity is angry with another columnist.”

She still does not agree that Johan spoke of a smear campaign. “I think I wrote four or five columns about the Voice riot in one week. I think that’s the biggest case we’ve ever had in seventy years of television, so I thought that was legitimate the week it broke.”

red ears

Angela regularly got red ears at the table because of the bawdy jokes of the VI men. Still, the TV appearance was good for her. “I did feel a bit like Tijs van den Brink on Temptation Island, but okay!” she said at the end of the broadcast. Wilfred thought it was ‘pleasant’ that Angela joined the program.

Angela’s performance on VI Today was not a ratings hit. With 602 thousand viewers (11% market share), the SBS 6 talk show attracted far fewer viewers than usual. Competitor RTL 7 simultaneously broadcast the Benfica – Ajax match and 1.7 million people (31%).

burden of football

Many programs suffered from the much-watched football. For example, on the third evening of his Evening Show, Arjen Lubach dropped below the million mark (944 thousand and 19%) and Eva Jinek had only 590 thousand viewers (13%). Tonight’s current and opinion programs will probably attract many more viewers because of the Russian attack on Europe.

The prime-time winners – after football – were Het Verhaal van Nederland with 1.5 million viewers on NPO 1, De Erfgenaam with 867 thousand viewers on RTL 4, Over My Body with 817 thousand viewers (15%) on NPO 1 and Girls who drive with 659 thousand viewers (11%) on NPO 3.

Viewing figures

Programs that did not reach the top fifteen viewing figures include Lang Leve De Liefde (613 thousand), M (610 thousand), Steenrijk Straatarm (607 thousand), Rooijakkers over the floor (606 thousand), Shownieuws (400 thousand) and HLF8 ( 362 thousand).
