Angela de Jong fears Meilandjes: ‘Viewing figures disappoint’

Angela de Jong takes seriously into account that the heyday of the Meilandjes is over. The new, seventh season started on Monday a bit cautiously.

The Meilandjes still have a great appeal to the television viewer. Nevertheless, they did not get further than bronze on Monday evening with the start of the seventh season of Chateau Meiland. With 887 thousand viewers, the SBS 6 program was defeated by both Kassa and Expedition Robinson. Still a setback.

The draft in it

The score is particularly sensitive because Martien Meiland himself indicated just before the season premiere that he only wants to stay on the tube ‘as long as we score well above the million’. Chateau Meiland’s cautious start to the season is discussed in the latest episode of the AD Media podcast.

Angela: “Just one more thing: you say Expedition Robinson scored so well, but I was surprised that Meiland was quite…”

Colleague Marcus den Blanken, media journalist at the AD: “Do you want to say that the draft is in it?”

Angela worried

Angela doesn’t want to say that right away, but she is really worried. “Well, it was one episode and then you don’t know it, but a season that everyone has been looking forward to… Meiland used to be good for a million and now under 900 thousand.”

Marcus: “You could already see it a bit with those Christmas specials, which already scored less. Then you had Chateau Bijstand that it did okay again, but this continues the line that there is simply less support. But with almost 900 thousand viewers, it is still a huge hit for SBS 6 terms.”

More of the same

Angela: “It’s fine for SBS 6, but it was a lot of the same, I say as a Meiland fan.”

Private boss Evert Sankrediets also thinks that the peak of the Meilandjes is over. “It’s a bit of a hit or miss I think for Chateau Meiland,” he said earlier. “I think that the novelty has worn off a bit. It is a pity, but it has also been so much, with repeats in the summer as well.”
