Angela de Jong explains the declining popularity of Eva Jinek: ‘It’s boring’

Eva Jinek has cashed exactly at the right time: she made the switch to RTL at the peak of her career. Her viewing figures are now in the doldrums. How does Angela de Jong see that?

She was the big star of Hilversum when she announced her switch to RTL 4 at the end of 2019: Eva Jinek. She kept her transfer a secret for as long as possible, in the hope that the late evening of NPO 1 would collapse like a house of cards. She started energetically, but after more than two years the situation has changed considerably and her successor Op1 scores better than she does now.

Eva Jinek collapsed

Eva is now more often not than on the tube and her viewing figures have collapsed enormously. Has the presenter become less sharp? Or is she just a victim of external factors? Wilfred Genee asks Angela de Jong, both on television in Today Inside and in the after-talk column Walks.

Wilfred notices that the big talk show names no longer appeal to viewers. “With Eva Jinek, whom you have always called the queen of the talk show, you also see the viewing figures fall. What is that about?”

Not exciting anymore

According to Angela de Jong, it is obvious. “Well, I don’t think Eva makes the most exciting program and what I also said at the table is that I just really like it… She is an incredibly good interviewer. Take that interview with Farid Azarkan. I think that’s etched in everyone’s mind. You don’t see that anymore, do you?”

High-profile news guests are no longer easily attracted to talk shows, Angela notices. “When was the last time you saw an interview, also in other programs, where you really moved to the edge of your seat and that you thought: yes! Get him! Or the other way around, that the interviewee turned out very well.”

‘It’s over’

Wilfred Genee also notices this in his work for BNR. Talk show guests are judged harder than ever for their statements, for example on social media, and therefore no longer feel like sitting down. “That’s a good one, yes. I notice it myself when I watch BNR now. There are also almost no people left with whom you can fully enjoy it.”

That time may simply have passed, says Wilfred. “Those people probably don’t venture into TV appearances anymore if they feel it can get exciting. It’s over, it’s over.”

Video country

Eva is currently running a new program about motherhood on Videoland. The premiere was yesterday:
