Andries Jonker announces farewell and leaves Telstar: “I want higher, better, more”

Minutes after the 4-3 defeat against Roda JC, Andries Jonker announced that he was saying goodbye to Telstar. The trainer stood in front of the group of the team from Velsen-Zuid for three years, but told the NH Sport camera that he was ready for a new challenge and a step higher.

Jonker took office as head coach of Telstar on June 28, 2019 and succeeded Mike Snoei. The 59-year-old Amsterdammer finished in his first season with Telstar in a handsome 10th place. Last season it reached 13th place in the ranking. This year, Telstar eventually finished 19th in the final standings, partly due to the many injuries and illnesses.

Jonker has been thinking about Telstar’s contract proposal for several weeks, but in the end decided not to go into it. “I had a great time. I always went to the club with a smile. But I think someone should take over now. I want higher, better more. Faster than Telstar can,” said Jonker.
