Andretti is a well-known name within the American racing circuit, having had great success in the IndyCar Series. Mario Andretti also drove both Nascar and Formula 1, where he became world champion with Lotus in 1978. He also won a grand prix twelve more times. Son Michael was slightly less acclaimed. He only drove one season (1993) in the premier class and came to one podium place.
