Ski jumping Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger is scheduled to return to the World Cup two weeks before the Beijing Winter Games (February 4th to 20th).
The 26-year-old Bavarian, who skipped the weekend in Zakopane, Poland, due to a stitch in his knee, is nominated for the show-jumping in Titisee-Neustadt.
So far, only Karl Geiger, Markus Eisenbichler and Stephan Leyhe have been scheduled for the trip to China.
Two more places are still open and will be jumped out this weekend between Wellinger, Severin Freund, Pius Paschke and Constantin Schmid.
“I hope that we can get two or three people in better shape for the Olympic Games. The Olympic decision will be made on Saturday evening after the first competition,” announced national coach Stefan Horngacher.
In the national group, former World Champion Richard Freitag will be playing for the first time this World Cup season.
