The new ski jumping season is fast approaching. From a German point of view, hopes rest on Andreas Wellinger, who is in good early form. National coach Stefan Horngacher is satisfied with his protégé.

“He’s doing very well. He’s really fit again and makes a good impression,” said the DSV trainer in an interview with “sports show“Wellinger recently made a significant change in order to fight for victories again in ski jumping.

From now on, the 27-year-old will start with material from Van Deer-Red Bull Sports. The company, founded in 2021 by alpine ski icon Marcel Hirscher, is currently shaking up the winter sports market. Several well-known ski racers are already under contract. Red Bull joined the company this summer.

A new ski jumping season is upon us

“Competitive sport is about further development. I wanted to change something after last season and went into the material tests with an open mind. The tests showed that the performance of the new material from Van Deer-Red Bull Sports is really strong,” Wellinger revealed at the time.

The German ski jumping ace added: “I immediately felt at home in the team and you can tell that everyone pulls together to be successful.” Wellinger had been jumping with Fischer skis for a long time and most recently with equipment from Augment.

The new ski jumping season begins on November 5th in Wisla, Poland. The World Cup circus then travels to Ruka (Finland) before continuing in Lillehammer (Norway).

Wellinger is currently in a strong early form. At the end of October, the two-time Olympic ski jumping champion secured the title of “German Champion” for the second time. In the coming months, things should go up again in the World Cup.
