Andrea Pirlo new coach of Sampdoria – Most recently with Fatih Karagümrük

Most recently with Fatih Karagümrük

After a year in Turkey, former world champion Andrea Pirlo is returning to Italian football as a coach. The 44-year-old will take over Sampdoria Genoa for the new season and have signed a contract there until 2025, the Serie A relegated team announced on Tuesday.

Pirlo was dismissed from Juventus in 2021 after one season and moved to the Turkish first division club Fatih Karagümrük the following year. There, the former midfielder averaged 1.29 points in 34 games before having to retire three games before the end of the season in May. His working paper would have expired anyway. “Since we cannot continue with Mr. Pirlo and his technical team next year, we have given him and his team until the end of the season to plan their future,” the club said. Pirlo is to be officially presented in Genoa this Wednesday.
