André van Duin 75 today! “I stay among the people”

“If you can physically do it, then you have to keep doing it,” André says in an interview with ANP. “Then you stay among the people.”

His career spans nearly sixty years during which he was long successful as a comedian. In recent years he has been popular as a presenter, for example of Heel Holland Bakt. “Normally you finish your career, but with me it started again. At that age you don’t expect that you will get so many opportunities and be allowed to do so many things.”

André broke through at the age of 17 after his TV debut in the AVROTROS talent show AVRO’s Nieuwe Oogst. There are plenty of beautiful moments to look back on, but perhaps Van Duin liked De Dik Voormekaar Show the most. He made the weekly radio program between 1973 and 1985 and 2000 and 2003 with Ferry de Groot.

Birthday with friends

Today André celebrates his 75th birthday with a dinner. He is going to have dinner with a group of intimate friends, he says. Without his husband, who passed away in early 2020. “We had imagined it very differently. It’s really sad. But we are going to make it a pleasant evening.”

André doesn’t have many big plans for the future yet, because he already has a lot to do. “There is nothing in the pipeline to go back into the theater. But you should never rule out anything, you never know.”
