Will Newcastle scout Szoboszlai?
André Silva knows “that he also has the trust of everyone here,” said RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose in mid-April. Shortly before, it had first appeared in the media that the 27-year-old striker was considering leaving the club after two years. The Portuguese’s playing time was always right, but the goal tally was not this season. According to Rose, Silva was never in the starting XI again, and in the DFB Cup semi-final against Freiburg (5-1) he was on the bench for the first time this season. “Leipzig star just wants to leave”, headlined the “Picture“ on Thursday about the goalscorer.
Accordingly, Silva decided to leave Leipzig despite the contract running until 2026. The 53-time national player is no longer happy with the Saxons, who brought him from Frankfurt for 23 million euros in 2021. In view of its decreasing operating time, the idea could also be seen as an anticipation of the EM 2024. In March, Portugal’s new national coach, Roberto Martínez, did not call up Silva.

More competition for André Silva – RB Leipzig needs income
And next season it won’t be any easier for Silva in Leipzig. With Christopher Nkunku (25; Chelsea), the top scorer will leave RB, but Benjamin Sesko (19) will be a new signing for the storm center. At 1.95 meters, the Slovenian, who comes from sister club Salzburg for €24m, is a classic center forward in contrast to Nkunku and would therefore be a direct rival to Silva in the 3-4-2-1 and 4-2-3- 1 systems roses. Other attackers recently linked to RB include Victor Boniface (22, RU Saint Gilloise), Folarin Balogun (21; loaned to Reims from Arsenal) and Loïs Openda (23; Lens).
According to the “Bild”, Leipzig would let Silva go if consultant Jorge Mendes from the agency “Gestifute” found a club that would be willing to pay a transfer fee of EUR 20 million in line with the market value. According to reports, the cup finalists must earn “well over” 100 million euros in order to meet UEFA’s financial sustainability requirements (successor to financial fair play).

“Sky”: Newcastle scout RB Leipzig’s Haidara and Szoboszlai
RB Leipzig could also generate income with midfielders Amadou Haidara (25) and Dominik Szoboszlai (22). Both get loud “sky‘ observed by Newcastle United. Haidara has recently been in the starting XI, but was a joker for most of the season. His contract is valid until 2025. Szoboszlai, meanwhile, is the team’s top preparer with 13 assists and is a clear performer. If Dani Olmo (24) does not extend beyond 2024 and change as a result, sports director Max Eberl would hardly sell the Hungarian.
