Despite the fact that his comeback is not the success he hoped for, André Hazes jr. wants to return to work full-time as soon as possible. “In 2024 I just want to be on the podium again fifty times.”
It is incredibly sour for André Hazes jr. After a long period in which he was the most talked about star in the country thanks to juice queen Yvonne Coldeweijer, the folk singer has fallen into a black hole. Without all those juice there is actually little left: his new repertoire – he suddenly dislikes folk songs – does not catch on at all.
Full time again
André sees one song after another from his comeback album flop and his Ahoy concert is still not sold out after more than three months. And that while fellow artist Flemming recently lost all his tickets for his concert in AFAS Live within five minutes and immediately announced a second show. Ai, ai, ai.
The Leef singer hopes to find his way up, he says NPO Radio 5. “We just had to be patient and now I’m slowly coming back. Next year I just want to go back to work, so to speak. Do more? Yes. Then I just want to be on the podium again fifty times. Yes man.”
Folk songs
Fifty times on stage with those songs no one wants to hear? Oh, he just seems to be singing Live and all those other folk songs again. “I have now done Live again for the first time. I saw the impact it had on people and I thought: Jesus, we did some really cool things.”
Cool things with a musical team that he rudely pushed aside. Does he still think it’s good records? “Sure, absolutely.”
Okay, so far André’s new musical direction.
Better in Belgium
All in all, André wants to be an artist full-time again. “Yes Yes. I also have Belgium that I have to take into account, but that seems very cool to me.”
Is he such a success in Belgium? “It is going very well there, yes. I am more famous in the Netherlands and bigger in Belgium. I think so. In Belgium it is mainly about the music and in the Netherlands about the events around it. We live in a different time than there.”
No juice
André likes that the juice has dried. “I think things have been going really well lately. It is my goal to keep it that way. It really doesn’t get you anything. I do like a bit of craziness and I think there will always be a little bit of commotion and I like that too – a boring life doesn’t appeal to me – but within limits. Exactly.”
His life will always be turbulent, thinks André. “Watching TV is my only moment of relaxation. I love that. I like watching movies man. Netflix, yes. Romantic movies. Video country? Nah… Oh yes, yes! Yes, I have to say that, because I have a documentary there, hahaha.”
