André Hazes announces comeback: ‘I have now overcome many addictions’ show

André Hazes (28) is stepping back into the spotlight, he says with a message on Instagram. In it he writes that he has deliberately chosen a period of rest. “I quit wrecking my body cold turkey.”

Hazes had disappeared from public life since September 2021. Today he writes: ‘The moment has come for me to break the silence of recent times and I therefore now share with you how I have been during the past period, and how I am doing now.’ He has recently called ‘the darkest period’ of his life.

‘I lost myself, trying to please everyone around me. When I tried to find myself again, I lost more and more people.’ Hazes indicates that he has sought professional help. ‘Because I needed it so much at the time. Just all the way back to basics in a search for myself. Figuring out who I really am, what I want in my life and finding out what REALLY makes me happy (and what doesn’t). I stopped demolishing my body cold turkey and I consciously opted for a long media silence.’

Emotional burnout

Hazes took a break last year because of a ‘emotional burnout’. He went through an extremely troubled period after he left his friend Monique Westenberg, with whom he has a son, for Sarah van Soelen. In the end, that short-lived romance also ended. Meanwhile, there were the wildest stories about Hazes’ various addictions. He now confirms that he has worked on that. In a photo from March this year, the artist very emaciated to see.

He really needed the period of rest and he did not want to disappoint his fans, writes Hazes. Now the singer returns to the spotlight. A documentary will appear on Videoland called crossroads, for which he regularly traveled to the United States. ‘I’m showing my most vulnerable side and believe me this was tough. I’ve come a long way and you deserve an honest documentary.’

He will also perform again, he writes. ‘I have now overcome many addictions, but I will never get rid of the addiction to be able to sing for my fans. I’ve missed you guys so much and can’t wait to make my comeback. And where else could that be than at Holland Zingt Hazes 2023. I’m really looking forward to being able to sing again for the most loyal audience there is.’

Roxeanne Hazes

Earlier this month, Hazes briefly broke his long media silence. Then he stood up for his mother Rachel after the statements his older sister Roxeanne made in Dear Singers. There she told about the ‘nasty form of homesickness’ that she suffered as a result of ‘traumas from her youth’. The Hazes scion received ‘The biggest blow’ from her youth when her mother wrote a book after her father’s death. “Then I didn’t have my mother with me for nine months. Just when you need her so much to mourn.”

Her brother was not happy with those words. He wrote on Instagram: “Mom, it is with a heavy heart and vicarious shame that I have had to read these messages about you from abroad.” He states that his mother fought for them. ‘As 1 of your 2 children, I don’t agree at all with the claims that have been made about you. I am grateful for what you managed to make out of our messy childhood and the achievement you did in making me who I am today. And from me you get eternal respect in return’
