Werder canceled for Gladbach
After his contract with FC Augsburg ended, André Hahn is one of the most valuable German footballers without a professional club. It was a “huge” disappointment for the 33-year-old offensive player that the FCA was over for the second time in the summer and there was no extension. “Even though I do understand the club somewhat because of my age and the situation. But in the last five years in Augsburg I have experienced and participated in a lot and have built a very deep connection with it,” said Hahn in an interview with “Dike room“.
“When it became clear that things couldn’t continue, my world collapsed. Nevertheless, we parted on good terms and I still have a good connection with the club today,” explained the veteran, who played 171 times for the Fuggerstadt team in a total of six and a half years, scoring 36 goals and 31 assists. In addition to Augsburg, Hahn was active in the Bundesliga for Borussia Mönchengladbach (93 games/17 goals/9 assists) and Hamburger SV (24/3/0).

After cartilage damage suffered in autumn 2022, the attacker is fighting “hard” to continue his career. “I’m doing well. I’m in rehab and continue to work on my knee, so far everything is fine,” said Hahn, who unfortunately had to cope with “small setbacks” on the way to recovery and has “no exact date yet” for his comeback could name a place.
However, ending his career is not an option for Hahn. “Of course it’s not that easy at my age, with such an injury. You already play through many scenarios in your mind. But I definitely want to get back on the pitch and make my comeback – that’s my goal. That’s what I work for every day,” the ex-national player clarified. He is also open to a commitment in a smaller league. “Being on the pitch as a footballer is the best job there is. The league doesn’t necessarily play the biggest role.”
André Hahn decided against Werder Bremen and for Gladbach in 2014
The right-footed player moved from Augsburg to the “Fohlen” for 2.25 million euros during his best career phase in 2014. Hahn could apparently have made the move to Werder Bremen – where he had completed a trial training session at the age of 13 or 14, but without success. “Before I went to Gladbach, Bremen also asked,” revealed the Otterndorfer. “At that time I had a lot of offers – including from very well-known clubs. Gladbach was playing internationally at the time, I met with coach Lucien Favre and Max Eberl, we had a good conversation and I had a good feeling about Gladbach. It just fit, and that’s why I chose her. It was definitely the right choice.”
After his playing days, the professional wants to stay in the football business, contrary to what he previously thought. “Parallel to the rehab, I just got my first trainer’s license – my B license. So I could train everything up to and including the major leagues. I want to stick with it in the future and continue my licenses after my career. I could well imagine passing on my experiences as a trainer or assistant trainer one day,” said Hahn, who at the beginning of 2015 had the highest market value of his career at 8 million euros.
