Carlo Ancelotti’s term of office at the German record champion was shorter than expected. The Italian now finds clear words for his short job in Munich.

Star coach Carlo Ancelotti came to FC Bayern Munich with large advance laurels. The Italian was supposed to build on the successful time of Pep Guardiola, came to the German record champion with the seal of the three of three Champions League titles (two with AC Milan, one with Real Madrid). But it never wanted to fit between Bayern and Ancelotti: After only 60 competitive games, the former hope for hope had to go again in September 2017.

Now, over eight years later, Ancelotti has commented on his time in Munich and his quick farewell – and has become clear. “It was the most ruthless discharge of my entire career,” quotes the “Bild” newspaper from Ancelotti’s new biography “The dream: how to win the Champions League”.

Review: After a sobering 0: 3 at Paris Saint-Germain in the second game of the Champions League preliminary round 2017/18, Ancelotti had to go a day later on September 28, 2017. “The day after the game, the board of directors came together and came to the conclusion that I was the problem,” Ancelotti continues. And remembers the words of the head of the board at the time: “‘The performance of our team since the beginning of the season did not meet the expectations we had given them,” said Rummenigge. “

The consequence: for Ancelotti, despite until then seven wins from ten games of the season. In 2016/17 the coach still led the Munich team to the German championship. However, the coach chewing on the edge of the field was also self -critical. “Against Paris Saint-Germain, I decided to do without our aging wing pliers and let our defenders move on while we mainly moved through the middle to attacks.”

In retrospect, Ancelotti continues: “It was a mistake. The balance was not right, and so they could mix up with their counterplay. They already scored their first goal in the second minute. The final result of 0: 3 was Bavaria’s most violent defeat in the competition for 21 years.”

For a game, assistant coach Willy Sagnol jumped interpreted, it was only enough for a 2-2 Hertha BSC. Then turned Jupp Heynckes back to Bayern. Ancelotti continued: “After my departure, you reached the semi -finals in the Champions League and failed there – guess! – Real Madrid”.

After further stations at SSC Naples (2018 to December 2019), the Italian is now a coach of the Brazilian national team (December 2019 to June 2021) and a new term at Real Madrid (2021 to 2025).
