Will Eintracht Braunschweig hit the transfer market in winter? A test player is currently training with the Lions. Coach Heiner Backhaus knows him well.
The preparation of Eintracht Braunschweig the second half of the season in the 2nd Bundesliga. Despite snow-related adversities, the BTSV started team training after the winter vacation. The squad continues to be tinkered with behind the scenes – with initial results. As Eintracht announced on Tuesday, Anas Bakhat will be there as a test player this week.
The 25-year-old offensive midfielder knows BTSV coach Heiner Backhaus well and, like the Eintracht coach, was under contract with third division team Alemannia Aachen until last summer. Since then, Bakhat has been without a club and most recently kept fit with regional league team Sportfreunde Siegen. The Siegen team is also said to be interested in the offensive player, whose market value the data portal “transfermarkt.de” estimates at 200,000 euros.
However, Eintracht should now be in pole position for a transfer – assuming the 25-year-old impresses during the trial training. For Aachen last season he contributed four goals and two assists in 22 third division games. Before his station in Aachen, he played in the youth ranks of Mainz 05 and 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
In 2019, he made the leap into the men’s division with the Palatinate team. In 2023 he turned his back on the “Red Devils” and moved to 1. FC Düren, before his stint in Aachen followed. Will there now be a reunion with coach Backhaus?
Bakhat wouldn’t be the first old Backhaus acquaintance that the coach brings to Braunschweig. In the summer, ex-Aachen central defender Patrick Nkoa also followed Eintracht’s call. The defensive man earned a regular place at BTSV over the course of the first half of the season and now has nine appearances and one goal for the professionals. It remains to be seen whether Bakhat can also help BTSV. BTSV starts the second half of the season on January 16th with a home game against 1. FC Magdeburg (kick-off: 6:30 p.m.).
