Kazakhstan is not a model democracy. But since Kassim-Zjomart Tokayev came to power, progress has been made. And he also has courage in foreign policy. His country is continuously threatened by Russia. “It never really existed and actually belongs to us,” is what it sounds like there. But that didn’t stop Tokayev this week from announcing something that could hurt the Russians. A measure that would directly weigh on the death toll in Ukraine.
