A long-time leader of the American show wrestling organization WWE Vince McMahon, 78, has been charged with sexual violence and human trafficking. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report about it.
Behind the charge is a former employee of the WWE organization Janell Grantwho claims McMahon promised him a job in exchange for sex in 2019. Grant, who was unemployed, describes the man who served as WWE chairman and CEO at the time pressuring him to accept an offer that would be career- and life-changing.
According to the indictment, McMahon was also guilty of human trafficking by arranging for Grant to have sex with WWE’s brightest stars. Some of the show wrestlers who were bribed with sex were ones he hoped to bring back to the service of the organization. For his silence, Grant received three million dollars from McMahon.
WWE is alleged to have been aware of at least the sexual relationship between McMahon and Grant and tried to keep it a secret.
McMahon, who led the successful entertainment product WWE for four decades, stepped aside from his roles as chairman and CEO in June 2022, when the investigation into the incident began. Last year, he returned to the organization as vice-chairman of the board of TKO, which currently owns it.
