An overview of the new smart tariffs from Vodafone

In the past few weeks, Vodafone has already adjusted its GigaMobil (formerly Red) and prepaid tariffs. Now the smart tariffs follow. You get more power, but are also more expensive.

Unlike the GigaMobil tariffs, Vodafone does not market the Smart tariffs online, but only through specialist retailers. Accordingly, they can be booked in the Vodafone shops, for example. On August 11th, the previously available options will be updated. It is the first adjustment in many years. The newly established tariffs run under the motto “Get more for more” (Eng. “Get more for more”). So that means that Vodafone’s Smart tariffs will have more power in the future, but will also be more expensive at the same time.

An overview of Vodafone’s Smart tariffs

The portfolio that will come into effect on August 11 comprises a total of seven tariffs. Starting with the Smart Entry for 34.95 euros per month, the selection goes through to the Smart XXL for 64.95 euros. The tariffs differ only in the data volume.

The Smart tariffs from Vodafone come with an all-network flat rate for calls to all German networks, as well as an SMS flat rate and an Internet flat rate. Unfortunately, the use of the 5G network is not possible with the offers. As before, users surf via LTE with a maximum of 500 Mbit/s downstream. The lack of 5G support is one of the big differences to the GigaMobil tariffs. In addition, the upload speed is not 100 Mbit/s, but a maximum of 50 Mbit/s.

In terms of price, however, the smart tariffs from Vodafone are slightly cheaper. This can be seen, for example, in a direct comparison between the GigaMobil S and the Smart Lite. Both cost 39.99 euros per month, although the GigaMobil S with 15 GB has slightly less data volume than the 20 GB in the Smart Lite.

The GigaDepot is included in all tariffs. This means that customers can take their unused data volume with them to the following month. The data volume of the current month is then used first, then the data volume taken over from the previous month is available – if required at all.

Tariffs can also be booked as a GigaKombi and as a Young option

Vodafone also offers the new Smart tariffs as GigaKombi. Those who have already booked a landline connection with the network operator receive price advantages. For them, the monthly basic fee for mobile phone tariffs is reduced by 5 euros, while at the same time they receive 50 percent more data volume every month.

Anyone under the age of 28 pays the same basic fee for the Smart tariffs as all other customers. However, young people get twice as much data volume for it. Depending on the tariff booked, it ranges between 20 GB and 140 GB for them.

Are the new smart tariffs from Vodafone worth it?

In principle, the Smart tariffs from Vodafone are less popular than the Giga Mobil tariffs (formerly Red tariffs). This is mainly due to the marketing channel. While Vodafone markets the GigaMobil tariffs online, the Smart tariffs are only available from specialist retailers. Another disadvantage is the lack of support for 5G, which makes the tariffs less competitive. After all, even all of the provider’s prepaid tariffs now have access to fast data transmission. In addition, customers have to be satisfied with a lower upload. Overall, however, the prices of the Smart tariffs are somewhat cheaper – apart from promotions that Vodafone starts from time to time for its GigaMobil offers.
