An ode by Tilburgers to their ‘green and raw’ city

With a poem by city poet Rodgairo Dalnoot, various Tilburgers pay tribute to their city in a video. Many recognizable places can be seen in it and even in the poem there are countless references to Tilburg. The video is getting a lot of praise on social media.

When you think of a beautiful city, Tilburg will not be the first to be mentioned by many people. But city poet Rodgairo Dalnoot has turned his city into a beautiful lady in his ode to Tilburg.

The video takes you along the Piushaven, the Spoorpark, the Spoorzone and the Moerenburg. The poem refers, among other things, to Tilburg’s industrial past and the many large gray buildings that are now being renovated and, together with the abundance of greenery, give the city a new face. Even a subtle reference to Guus Meeuwis is not lacking.

“We wanted the city to be described by the people of Tilburg themselves.”

Ticket to Tilburg is responsible for the video together with Toffey. “We really wanted to have Tilburg described honestly by the people of Tilburg themselves,” explains Sanne Leenders of Ticket to Tilburg. This is done on the basis of six themes: green, raw, open and movement, and making and niche.

The people you see in the video and recite the poem all do so from recognizable places where they can often be found: “That’s why you see park manager Sophie Peeters in her Spoorpark and former urban biologist Gert Brunink in Moerenburg.”

“We can be proud of Tilburg.”

Positive reactions are pouring in on social media. “Everyone is enthusiastic, it seems to really touch people and that is the intention,” says Leenders. Rodgairo Dalnoot’s poem and the video make her a proud Tilburger. “I hope everyone feels that way, that people are proud of their city, because that’s okay.”
