An investigation by Catalunya Ràdio finds no indication of abuse by Gordillo at the head of the station

  • The current director Jordi Bordas explains in the Parliament that this inspection was carried out after the two complaints filed against Gordillo by editors of the newspaper El Principal but clarifies that they found nothing that happened during his time at the helm of the Catalan public radio

The former director of Catalunya Ràdio, Saul GordilloHe has no open complaint and there is “no indication” that he had abusive behavior during the six years he was in charge of the public station. This concludes an internal investigation that the radio has carried out in recent weeks regarding the allegations of sexual assault against the journalist that were made public at the end of December. It was explained this Friday by the current director of the station, Jordi Bordas, asked about the issue in Parliament. Borda has stated that both Catalunya Ràdio and the CCMA are “committed” to having a safe working environment, and with “the accompaniment, support and protection of the victims, if one day they occur” within the public media.

The parliamentary groups of Junts per Catalunya and En Comú Podem have questioned the director of Catalunya Ràdio about the protocols to deal with sexual assaults based on gender. They have done so in the first control session in the activity of the CCMA in 2023, and also the first after both complaints were made against the former director of the station for sexual assault.

Jordi Borda has exposed, on the one hand, that the internal protocol for prevention and “support for victims” in these cases has existed for 3 years, and that it was launched with the former Governing Council of the CCMA, precisely when Gordillo was still the director of the radio.

On the other hand, the current director has recounted how the station decided to launch an internal investigation as a result of the complaints of sexual assault against Gordillo, although they are after his time at the helm of public radio.

“I met with the interim president of the Company Committee and she began an exhaustive investigation of Human Resources, with the previous management, medical services, the prevention management, etc.” It was also transferred to the template that was being carried out, and it was recalled that the commission in charge would work with “discretion” and guaranteeing “accompaniment” to potential victims, as established in the internal protocol for action in cases of abuse.

No complaints or indications

After several weeks, the conclusion is that there was no complaint or hint of abuse in the work environment of Catalunya Ràdio during Saül Gordillo’s time as director, as reported by Borda. Having said this, he did not close the door on their appearing and anticipated what the consequence would be: “If any complaint appeared through this mechanism, the gear would be activated to protect the victims and also for the derivation of responsibilities in case it was necessary”.
